Somalia and Djibouti to strengthen logistics and trade cooperation

The Chairman received at Red Sea World, His Excellency Mohamud Ahmed Adan, Minister of Trade and Industry of the Federal Republic of Somalia.

The discussions centered on establishing a stronger cooperation in logistics and infrastructure development.

His Excellency outlined plans to develop two ports and two free zones in Cadaleh (north) and Jazirah (south) of Mogadishu. On this occasion, he reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to positioning Djibouti as a strategic gateway for its commerce, particularly for import and export transshipment activities.

The meeting also explored trade facilitation through the innovative sea-air cargo system, which already connects Mogadishu among 28 more cities across 25 countries through DIFTZ. This concept is recognized as a key tool for optimizing trade operations and enhancing efficiency.

The Chairman presented DPFZA's vision of an integrated model that separates the port, park, and the city (PPC model). The Somali delegation expressed strong interest in adopting this approach to enhance their own logistics infrastructure.
