Due to the geostrategic location near the core of the city, the existing port has the required characteristics to be transformed into a business district. The district is expected to comprise residential areas, financial buildings, waterfront developments, and a cruise terminal to cater for the tourism activities in the city of Djibouti.</p> <h3>Vision</h3> <p>The Djibouti Business District has been developed with the vision to:<br /> • build a vital mixed-use city core of global stature;<br /> • create a new urban lifestyle for the people of Djibouti;<br /> • provide accommodation for thirty thousand residents;<br /> • transform Djibouti’s tourism with a world class cruise liner terminal; and,<br /> • deliver a world class central business district at the city’s heart.</p> <h3>Status of the Project</h3> <p>A feasibility study for the Djibouti Business District has been completed. Construction will start once the old port is completely closed. Currently, there are still port operations performed including the livestock terminal. As such, the GHIH is developing an 80ha ship repair yard, comprising two floating docks equipped with two floating cranes of 32t. Furthermore, the ship repair yard is projected to have a quay line extending over 840m at a draught of -20.0m.<br /> The yard will employ 200 people and will be able to repair ships weighing up to 80,000 DWT. The ship repair yard will offer a full range of services ranging from normal dry dockings for scheduled maintenance to damage repair and extensive refits or conversion jobs. Total project costs are estimated to be approximately USD 400M. The original location of the shipyard was in Obock but it has now been planned in the Damerjog development.</p> <h3>Status of the Project</h3> <p>The project will be completed in September 202.
