Bilateral Meeting Held on the Sidelines of the JTSC on Türkiye–Africa Transport Connectivity
On the sidelines of the Joint Transport Steering Committee (JTSC) on Türkiye–Africa Transport Connectivity, a bilateral meeting was held between the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Türkiye represented by Mr. Burak Aykan General Director for EU and Foreign Relations, and the Minister of Transport and Equipment of the Republic of Djibouti H.E. Hassan Houmed Ibrahim.
The meeting took place in the presence of H.E. Aden Houssein Ambassador of Djibouti to Türkiye, H.E. Sabri Ergen Ambassador of Türkiye to Djibouti, and Mr. Aboubaker Omar Hadi, Chairman of Djibouti Ports and Free Zones Authority.
Discussions focused on strengthening transport connectivity and accelerating the flow of goods between Africa and Asia. Emphasis was placed on streamlining logistics corridors to ensure fluid and reliable cargo movement.
In this business model, Mardin–Umm Qasr Port road corridor with an estimated transit time of 14 hours and the Umm Qasr Port–Djibouti Port maritime link with an average transit time of 5 days were identified as the corridors from both economic and operational perspectives, the Türkiye–Gulf–Africa Express Corridor.
The discussions also explored opportunities to further enhance logistics performance through the sea-air cargo initiative by including Turkish Airlines. With the sea-air cargo extensive network serving already 28 cities across 26 African countries, Turkish Airlines is an important asset in the support of fast and competitive cargo connectivity between Djibouti and Turkey for the whole region.
