Chairman Receives Canadian Ambassador at Red Sea World

The Chairman received at Red Sea World H.E. Nicolas Simard, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to the Republic of Djibouti. On this occasion, Mr. Aboubaker Omar Hadi expressed his deep appreciation to the Government of Canada for awarding him a scholarship to pursue a Master’s degree in Port and Shipping Management at the World Maritime University in Malmö, Sweden, at a young age.  It played a formative role in his academic and professional development.

Ambassador Simard emphasized Djibouti’s strategic geographic position at the heart of international trade routes, noting that this advantage offers significant potential to further strengthen economic and business relations. Ambassador stated that Canada is actively seeking trusted and high-quality partners. 12 Canadian companies are currently operating within Djibouti’s free zones, out of a total of 983 companies established there.

The discussions also addressed the Francophonie Forum scheduled to take place in October 2026. The Ambassador expressed his intention to encourage the participation of a large number of Canadian entrepreneurs, with the objective of enabling them to discover Djibouti’s economic environment and investment opportunities.

Potential areas of cooperation between Djibouti and Canada were explored, including the export of salt to the Canadian market for use in the cosmetics industry and for road de-icing purposes.
