DPFZA Advances Key Energy and transport projects with word Bank and IFC Support
On April 8th, the Chairman received at Red Sea World Mme Fatou Fall, World Bank Representative in Djibouti and Cheik-Oumar Sillay, the IFC Regional Coordinator for the Horn of Africa.
The discussions primarily focused on the continued development of DPFZA projects, including the production of 20 MW of energy for the Doraleh Container Terminal (SGTD) and the extension of RN18. The 20 MW energy project is designed to meet the growing power demands of the Doraleh Container Terminal, ensuring a sustainable energy supply for its operations. By harnessing more efficient energy production methods, this project will help support the terminal’s long-term growth and its position as a key hub in regional trade.
The RN18 extension is a critical infrastructure project aimed at enhancing regional connectivity and facilitating smoother transportation of goods and services within the region. The expansion is expected to significantly improve logistics efficiency, ultimately boosting trade and investment in the region.
These projects could potentially be financed through a public-private partnership (PPP) model.
Another important topic addressed was the enhancement of labor skills, particularly in areas such as crane operation within our ports and other key skills necessary for the Ship Repair Yard. The chairman stated that the development of these specialized skills is essential for ensuring a highly skilled workforce capable of meeting the demands of an evolving industry.
