This afternoon, the Chairman received at Red Sea World, H.E. Mrs. Anelies Verstichel, the newly appointed Ambassador of Belgium to Djibouti.
This courtesy visit, offered the Chairman an opportunity to extend his congratulations on her new role and convey his best wishes for a successful mission in Djibouti.
During the meeting, the Chairman recalled discussions held in Belgium last May with the European Union, which focused on the establishment of a waste reception facility at Djibouti's ports.
This facility, designed to collect water slush, used oil, and solid waste, aligns with International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations under the MARPOL 73/78 convention, which Djibouti has ratified.
The initiative is an important step in protecting Special Areas such as the Gulf of Aden and Tadjourah.
The meeting also touched on the twinning of the Port of Antwerp with Djibouti’s ports and the development of the blue economy.
