THE PREPOSITIONNING OF JAPANESE PRODUCTS IN DJIBOUTI
This afternoon, the Chairman received at Red Sea World, the Japan Djibouti Friendship Association (JDFA) for a meeting.
This meeting was attended by H.E.M. Hara Keiichi, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Djibouti, H.E.M. Ibrahim Bileh Doualeh, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Djibouti to Japan, and Mr. Tetsuro Yano, Senator and Executive Advisor of the Japan Djibouti Friendship Association (JDFA).
Central to the discussions was the strategic prepositioning of Japanese products in Djibouti. As the gateway to the COMESA market, Djibouti offers unparalleled access to one of Africa’s largest regional economic blocs. This positioning could facilitate Japan’s efforts to expand its trade presence in the region while reinforcing Djibouti’s role as a hub for international commerce.
Another key point of discussion was the export of Djibouti’s unique local products, particularly its renowned salt. The high quality of Djiboutian salt has already garnered recognition, having been successfully delivered to Japan during the Fukushima crisis. Building on this success, both parties explored opportunities to increase the volume and diversity of Djiboutian exports to Japan, fostering mutual economic benefits.
The discussions also touched on the upcoming exhibition organized by the Port of Djibouti along with the Port of Kobe. This initiative, slated for October 7–9, 2025, aims to deepen maritime cooperation between the two ports, creating a foundation for long-term collaboration in trade, logistics, and cultural exchange.
This meeting reaffirmed the growing partnership between DPFZA and l’Association Amitié Japon-Djibouti, highlighting shared goals and mutual opportunities.
